Volunteering in Latin America by Connie Martin
Working as a volunteer in a developing country can be a life-altering and educational experience. Want to explore new scenery and cultures? Try new activities? Develop new skills and friendships? Test-drive a new career? Learn a new language? Sample new flavors and rhythms? Yes, volunteering can provide all of this and more! And in addition to expanding your personal interests, it can broaden your horizons and encourage personal development as well. Whether you’re caring for the sick or orphaned, implementing a community upgrade program, or working to protect the environment and its native species, volunteering can give you the opportunity to change the lives of many people – including your own.
Often, the hardest part of planning your independent volunteer experience is actually finding information on the volunteer organizations and opportunities themselves. So, to help you get started, Volunteering in Latin America written by Connie Martin provides precise information on how to source low-cost volunteer opportunities. It focuses on the independent “grass-roots” volunteer opportunities that exist in Latin America where you can volunteer for free, or at least at a reasonable cost, and, very importantly, includes website addresses for each volunteer organizations listed in the book.
Having a list of organizations to choose from, being able to review their goals and volunteer projects in detail, and communicating with them in advance, can really help you determine which organization is best aligned with your particular objectives and interests and will give you the experience you want.
This e-book can also help simplify the daunting task of planning your independent volunteer experience by giving you tons of useful information about volunteering and traveling within Latin America that will save you endless hours of frustrating research. There are even first-hand experiences from thirteen volunteers. You will have everything you need to hit the road in a smart and safe manner. Really, it’s total peace of mind in a one-stop resource guide.
So if you want to launch yourself more quickly and easily into the amazing, life-altering world of volunteerism that awaits you you will need a copy of Volunteering in Latin America.
About the author Connie Martin
Why would someone with a good career, great paying job, nice home, new car, and a comfortable lifestyle in Canada want to give it all up? Well, whether it was a midlife crisis or just plain craziness, the author of this book did just that! In August 2003, she quit her job, put her things in storage, sold her house and car, said tearful goodbyes to family and friends, and set off on the “adventure of her lifetime”. Practically going from riches to rags, she left the life of luxury behind and started enjoying countries as a budget backpacker, traveling solo most of the time. She also did some volunteer work along the way which gave her a broader understanding and better appreciation of the countries she visited and a richer overall travel experience. Thus far she’s had the privilege of visiting many countries around the world, including Antarctica, and has traveled quite extensively through Latin America. Presently she’s living on a sailboat in the Caribbean.
